Like this. Language itself is an interesting thing. Emojis can be used to say something that words simply can’t and vice versa. That being said language is used to bring us closer to each other but also always has the pull to create an in-group language (used for those with power but also by oppressed groups to be able to speak past power). Emojis then would be subject to the same forces, though now we have tech giants underwriting their basic “voice”.
So looking at history and things like the evolution of “Aleph” the first letter in Arabic and watch how it came from (most likely) the Egyptian hieroglyph for the ox’s head to what is now a simple mark. I imagine to some extent that emojis too will grow in that sense (pulled towards complexity and then back to simplicity). Interesting stuff and thanks for this.
