group discussion is not the best for collective intelligence

Hm… last time I checked, human communication still have not evolved to mind-reading ;) Group discussion is the only way for collective intelligence to emerge in group agreements!

However, if groups discussion is done superficially, without really focusing your attention to other people when they speak, without you and others practicing active listening, without using pauses, silence and individual reflection as part of discussion… you know… constant chatter, just talk… then this claim is probably true.

What happens more and more in groups that I facilitate (both online and face-to-face), people demand some reflection time before they make decisions. I think that’s a good sign.
