Interview: George

This week I decided to interview a friend of mine from my spanish class named George. George and I go way back, and we didn’t even know we did. After a few weeks of being friends through spanish class, we realized we are related. My uncle by blood married his aunt! We were both in the wedding; I was the flower girl and he was the ring bearer. We both have very different experiences at The U of M. We both live in different places, have different friends, and are involved in many different activities. Even through we share some similarities I thought it would be a good opportunity to interview him.

Q: What makes your freshman experience unique to other people?

A: I’m sure everyone has the same opportunities. I went out and became involved at the U of M. Which helped me have a better first experience here. I am involved in The Policy Committee which represents the student body and changes policies to be more fair to students and faculty. I am also involved The University YMCA philanthropy team which helps raise money and get people to volunteer in the community. I am also a student representative of The Rooter Club. The club helps organize sporting events, and organize transportation to away games. I am a member of CURE international and CLA business club. I also spend my time participating in intramural sports such as: soccer, hockey, and quidditch.

Q: How has being involved seperates your experience at The U of M from your peers?

A: I have a special connection toward the school in general. I am so involved in the interworkings, the community as a whole, and I have a better understanding of the student body. I also have a whole lot of Gopher pride. Being involved in this big campus has helped me developed strong relationships with supporters of The U of M, students, and it’s leaders. Which has helped the school seem smaller.

Q: How has your living situation impacted your first year?

A: I live in Bailey Hall. Bailey Hall and St.Paul in general has helped me connect with students on a deeper level. We connect because we all have a mutual dislike for Bailey Hall and being so far away from classes. It has helped alot for more time between classes, and has helped improve my time management. It is hard to use the bus schedule because you have to plan a half hour before you go any where.
