My journey to becoming a developer!

Several months ago I woke up wanting a new challenge. Spending several years in the Health and Wellness industry left me hungry for something new. Don’t get me wrong helping people reach their health goals is gratifying. But with anything no matter how much you love it can become monotonous. I’ve always been a creative person so becoming a developer made sense as a viable option. I started researching schools and the biggest selling factor for me as a learner would be how hands-on would the program/instructor be in cultivating our knowledge and skills. I found Actualize and after a few phone meetings with a rep I felt they met my criteria for what I needed. Fast forward to the bootcamp, well its difficult just as I imaged. We opened up the Terminal something I never knew existed, then set up our github page and I was like “git huh”, adjusted our linkedin pages to include that we were developers(pretty cool). The first week was rough and thats before even mentioning code.

Times loop: The means to iterate through data/information.

or how about if/else statements: A conditional structure to check wether a condition is true or false.

These are a just some of the code we learned during the pre-work and reinforced during the bootcamp. You may ask, “Nnanna, how are you doing?” The only word that properly describes how I’m feeling is “challenged!” Honestly I’ve always just been naturally good at things like sports, fitness, communication, public speaking, and school. This seriously kicking my ass! I have good days but just seem to feel overwhelmed most of the time. I have to keep reminding myself that it will all come together and to,“Keep pushing forward”. I may not be the most knowledgable or talented but I’m gonna work like hell to be developer. In this journey “Growth Mindset” is critical to success. See you guys in the next one! ✌🏾
