Beyond Birthday ( BB ) Death Note : Everything You Need To Know
In Death Note, Beyond Birthday (also called Rue Ryuzaki B as well as BB) is the 2nd child to be admitted to an orphanage Wammy’s House to be L’s successor in the future. The BB was the killer in murders in the Los Angeles BB Murder cases.Beyond Birthday is not featured in any anime or manga however it is mentioned in the Los Angeles BB Murder Case is mentioned briefly within the anime, manga, and film series.
APPEARANCE Beyond Birthday
Beyond is described in the book as a young man who has pale complexion, dark hair, and dark circles under his eyes with a striking likeness in appearance to L. He is dressed in white, long-sleeved shirt with faded jeans. He is slim and tall, but he is in a hunched position exactly like L. Much like L Lawliet, Beyond frequently sits in the same seated position like him.
However, this isn’t meant to be his actual appearance. Beyond Birthday has been reported to have put on a lot of makeup in order to hide his. Many of his followers portray him as having eyes that are red, however, this particular one is a totally different color of eyes since according to the author of of the Death Notes Eyes of those with Shinigami eyes aren’t able to differ from normal eyes because of red-colored eyes. But the color red has also been used by fearful fans as it acts as his signature in a sense. There is however an opportunity that this rule is not the case, as Beyond Birthday has had eyes since his birth.

Plot Beyond Birthday
There isn’t much information about Beyond however, Beyond and A were the very first two children who would become L’s successors. The pressures of the house of Wammy was too to bear for A which led A to commit suicide and B was forced to leave Wammy’s home for unknown reasons.Through the entire novel, Beyond imitates L. This is why it’s not clear which actions are imitations and which are real characteristics of his character. He is said to has the jam in jars that contain strawberry inside the refrigerators of victims. It is similar to the over-the-top love of sweets, which is also evident when it comes to the L as well as Mello. Beyond is also known to have the habit of crawling around on his hind legs and biting his thumb. Though it’s mentioned only in one instance in the book however, it is implied that Beyond is often laughing. The laughter of Beyond is described as by Mello in the book as “shinigami laughter.”
The man was born to have eyes that resemble those of Shinigami, which is the reason he can observe the life of his partner without making a deal with a god of death. It isn’t known what it takes for a human to be born to the world through eyes like an Shinigami (Mello believes there’s a chance that the Shinigami turned his eyes to the human world instead of the death note).

VICTIM BB Death Note
- Believe Bridesmaid: Beyond Birthday’s first victim was a freelance journalist Believe Bridesmaid (44), whom he strangled and drugged with a rope July 31st 2002. The victim left four wara-ningyo (straw dolls or voodoo dolls) at the scene of the crime. Following the victim’s death the killer stripped Believe Bridesmaid of its clothes and cut out characters (later determined to be Roman numerals) inside the chest of the doll.
- Quarter Queen Second murder occurred four days later on the 4th of August. The victim, quarter queen (a teenager aged 13) was also drunk and passed away due to injuries on the head. Following she died, Beyond Birthday crushed her eyes and placed the glasses she was wearing (it was later discovered that the glasses weren’t hers). The three Wara Ningyo had been found on the scene.
- The Backyard Bottomslash Third murder occurred nine days later. The Backyard Bottomslash was 28-year-old bank worker who was narcotics-addicted just as those who were killed. Beyond Birthday was determined to know whether it was possible for someone to die of internal bleeding, without tearing or damaging organs. Beyond Birthday carried out this test by striking the left arm of his victim without breaking the skin. If this did not succeed, Backyard Bottomslash died of blood loss. BB took off her left leg and right arm following her death. Later, the leg was discovered in the bathroom, as was the arm that he carried along with him. Two Wara Ningyo nailed to the walls.

FATE BB Death Note
On the 22nd of August On the 22nd of August, Naomi Misora travels to the location in which Fourth BB murder was supposed to occur.
She realizes it is Luee Ryuzaki, the mysterious detective she works with is not who he claims to be. Also, She discovers that Luee Ryuzaki is actually Beyond Birthday and the murder that took place was his suicide attempt. She stops his attempt to commit suicide and detains Beyond Birthday. One year and a half later On January 21 of the 21st of January, 2004, Beyond Birthday dies in the prison of an heart attack.
The death is likely caused at the hands of Kira (Light Yagami) through the use of the Death Note, but this scene isn’t recorded in the anime nor within the manga which means we don’t get to know how Beyond dies, or even who Light killed other than Light Yagami. The only thing we know is the fact that Beyond Birthday passed away after the death of Naomi Misora’s death and occ urred shortly after Light became a pupil.
OTHER
In the novel the reader does not be aware it is Luee Ryuzaki is actually Beyond Birthday. The opposite is true. The reader is enticed to believe that the author is L himself. This is apparent both in his actions (slouched posture, love of sweets, his sitting posture) as well as the way he appears (black hair dark circles around the eyes). In reality, BB is trying to imitate L. Due to this apparent resemblance to L It isn’t certain if the illustration in the novel depicts L or the Beyond Birthday.Mello claims that BB refers to himself as “Beyond Birthday,” due to his shinigami eyes that is what he’s had since his birth. What does that mean? that he doesn’t have a real name isn’t explained. However, those who work at The Wammy’s Home do not know about the new name of BB (including L).
TRIVIA About Beyond Birthday Death Note
- In the anime’s supplement “Death Note — Rewrite,” Beyond Birthday is featured in a brief “cameo appearance,” so to speak — specifically in the flashback scene which shows Near’s initial, and sole “contact” with L Lawliet. (There is some debate about the scene, however due to the fact that in the second perspective of the room, the supposed Beyond is a blonde, short hair. But, after L was finished speaking and the kids are on the floor, it is easy to observe someone who appears exactly like L from behind (possibly the person is beyond Birthday).
- Every one Of Beyond’s victim are afflicted with two of the identical initials (2 of the 3 victims are BB initials).
- Beyond Birthday is said to be a fan of Japan. This is evident by example in his love of manga (Akazukin Chacha).
- In the film L: Change the World In the film L: Change the World, his”B” is the letter that he uses to signify his death “B” is shown in the program L Lawliet uses to communicate Watari’s demise.
- There is a rumor Beyond’s father was killed during the robbery as was his mother died in an accident with a train.
