Liberty University Dismissed From Same-Sex Custody Lawsuit
In 2012, Judith Jenkins filed a lawsuit against several people and organizations, including Liberty University, who she believes, in 2009, conspired with her partner, Lisa Miller, to kidnap their daughter. Liberty University was tied to the case because of their employment of one of Lisa Miller’s lawyers, but claims they were not involved in the kidnapping plot. On Aug. 29, the judge dismissed the Christian univeristy from the lawsuit.
Virginia Governor Educates Liberty Medical Students On Pressing Opioid Crisis
On Wednesday, Sep. 5, Gov. Ralph Northam visited the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine to discuss the opioid crisis with roughly 200 Liberty students, staff, and faculty members. Liberty University was Gov. Northam’s last stop on his summer tour to discuss the opioid crisis with Virginia medical students. The treatment solutions of rehab, incarcerated treatment, and redirecting opioid users to drug courts, were encouraged by Gov. Northam as 1,534 Virginia residents died from addiction-related fatalaties in 2017 alone.
Flames Football Kicks Off In Newly Renovated Stadium for Inaugural FBS Season
On Saturday, Sep. 1, the Liberty Flames kicked off their inaugural Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) football season in the newly renovated Williams Stadium at Liberty University. The game was delayed about an hour due to rain and lightning. However, that didn’t stop the cheering fans and the game-ready team from a memorable night, as the Liberty Flames beat the Old Dominion Monarchs 52–10!
