I’m Noah Schlottman and This is How I Work
Location: Duluth, MN
Current Gig: Marketing student in my third year at the University of Minnesota Duluth
One word that describes how you work: Patiently
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? Why?
Spotify and Apple Podcasts. I almost always listen to something while I work so, whether its Travis Scott, John Mellencamp, or The Fantasy Footballers, one of these apps is ususally running all day while I’m on campus.
Google Drive. I use Google Drive for most of my work. Storing work on the cloud gives me the ability to access all of my work from any device at any time.
Reddit. The front page of the internet, Reddit is by far my most used app. The NFL, the white house, Wall Street, and everything in between, I get almost all of my news here.
What’s your best time-saving shortcut/life hack?
Meal Prep! I discovered meal prep during the second semester of my Sophomore year and it changed my life. No more pizza rolls and easy mac, now I make my dinner for the week on Sunday night. Now I eat healthier than I did before, and it saves me over an hour every week compared to how long it would take if I cooked every night.
What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?
I’m normally very good with time management and focus. When I need to get things done, I can put my earbuds in and my head down and get to work. Once I get in my zone there isn’t much that can slow me down.
What do you listen to while you work?
I usually listen to various fantasy football podcasts during the NFL season, my favorite is the Fantasy Footballers. When I decide I need to mix it up or run out of podcasts I usually turn to hip-hop or classic rock depending on what mood I’m in.
Are you more of introvert or an extrovert?
I am much more of an extrovert, but leaving home for college has forced me to open up and work more on finding a balance between introversion and extroversion.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“The hell with the rules. If it sounds right then it is.”
-Eddie Van Halen. We often look for THE right solution that fits best with the book, but nobody ever got ahead by following what someone else already did. The only way go forward is to come up with something that nobody else thought was the answer. If it works, then it is the only answer you need.
Where do you find inspiration and new ideas?
Inspiration is everywhere. It can strike at any moment, and it can be sparked by anything
Is there anything else you’d like to add that might be interesting to readers?
This Summer I went to Boston with my family and I was finally able to see Fenway Park which is the oldest professional baseball stadium. I’ve wanted to see it in person since I was 5 when my dad gave me a book of every stadium. I even named one of my bats in little league “The Green Monster” after the left field wall at Fenway because the bat was green.
