Ten Commandos might be a sign of good times to come.
My latest discovery is Ten Commandos, a “super group” made up of people from other bands I like (QOTSA/Pearl Jam/Soundgarden). Their debut isn’t revolutionary, but the sound makes me feel like a musical revolution is coming…
I’m not super in love with the state of indie rock today and indie/college rock is usually the canary in the musical coal mine. When indie is more about bleeps, bloops and guys in weird hats playing the banjo than outsiders trying to make their own way with guitars and smart lyrics, it’s lost its way.
Ten Commandos isn’t mainstream enough to be major-label “normal” — it has side project written all over it — but it’s got the kind of vibe that makes an impact.
Between music like this and the big news like the reunion of GnR, I feel like we’re on the cusp of emerging from a generally weak few years to a future of meaningful music.
In the meantime, enjoy bright spots like Ten Commandos when they come up.
