An Introduction to Total

The history of Total began in 1924 in France with the establishment of CFP or Compagnie Française des Pétroles. Initially focusing on oil production in the Middle East, the company has grown significantly over almost a century, expanding both geographically and through product diversification. Total now has presence internationally and works with a range of products and services including gas, petrochemicals, solar power, petroleum product marketing, refining, energy storage and bioenergies.
The 20-year ambition of Total today is to become leaders in responsible energy, addressing new challenges as a global energy major. SOCAR, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic, is considering bringing Total into the Umid-Babek gas and condensate field project in Azerbaijan, which is currently a joint project with Nobel Upstream under the terms of a Risk Service Agreement ratified by the parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan, similar to Azerbaijan’s existing Production Sharing Agreements. You can find out more about Nobel Upstream in the PDF attachment to this post.

Total in Azerbaijan
Total began its first operations within Azerbaijan in 1996, primarily working in the production and exploration sectors as well as marketing lubricants. Gas was discovered in 2011 in the Absheron field. In late 2016, Total signed a framework agreement with SOCAR to regulate the main commercial and contractual principles of the initial stage of development at Absheron. This scheduled drilling is to take place from March 2018 until March 2019, with extraction due to commence early in 2020. Total and SOCAR each hold a 50% share in JOCAP, the sole operator of the Absheron field. SOCAR is further seeking an international oil company to partner in the Umid-Babek gas and condensate field, with Total one of several currently under consideration.
Total Values and Commitments
The identity of Total revolves around five main values: safety, respect, pioneering, standing together and being performance-minded. These embedded values guide the entire company and all its actions from relationships with stakeholders to the individual safety of employees and the public.
The ambition of Total is to become recognised as the responsible energy major. To achieve this goal, the company is focusing on three key commitments: reinventing relationships with customers, integrating the battle against climate change into core strategy, and supplying energy that satisfies the requirements of an ever-increasing population both economically and socially.
In pursuit of these values and commitments, Total recently attended the Movin’ On sustainability summit. You can find out more about Movin’ On in the short video attachment.
