Let’s make smart replies great again

Dear Google,

The Inbox by Gmail Smart reply feature is a yuuuge timesaver. I am a big, big fan. It saves me a tremendous amount of time. All other email tools are now lightweights, I can tell you that now.

There is however a nitpick I have and I think it serves the goal of increasing Inbox user productivity and eliminating tremendous waste of time checking calendars. When suggesting responses based on my availability, I should query my calendar for my availability in context with the suggested meeting times it reads.

In the screenshot above, what’s the use of providing a “Let’s do tomorrow” or “I’m free all day” reply when:

  1. It’s Monday and my calendar denotes I am unavailable tomorrow and,
  2. The sender initially wanted to know if Wednesday or Thursday was available.

?

Please consider this in future updates and let’s make Inbox smart-reply much nicer! Let’s make smart replies great again.
