No Brainers NFT Integrates Chainlink VRF to Help Power Provably Fair Giveaways
We’re excited to announce that No Brainers — a collection of 5,100 brain-augmented humanoid NFTs — has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on Ethereum mainnet.
By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, we now have access to a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness needed to provide transparent, provably fair giveaways to No Brainers NFT holders after certain sale thresholds are met. Ultimately this creates a more exciting and fraud-proof user experience, as users can verify the authenticity of the giveaways directly on the blockchain.
No Brainers NFT is a collection of 5,100 brain-augmented humanoids living on the Ethereum blockchain. Designed and rendered by MetaMind Labs, No Brainers are algorithmically generated by combining a set of characteristics chosen from a pool of 250+ unique, meticulously designed 3D traits that each have their own assigned rarity percentages. Each No Brainer NFT is 100% distinguishable from the rest of the limited collection.
Besides serving as a mint pass for any future MetaMind Labs project, each No Brainer NFT a user holds counts as 1 vote towards the DAO-managed treasury — the latter will be initially funded by a portion of the primary sales up to 40 ETH + 20% of royalties. Additionally, the project will be donating up to 30 ETH from primary sales + 10% of royalties to a mental health charity chosen by token holders. Each token holder will also be able to participate in free monthly mental health webinars hosted by a certified wellness coach. Furthermore, No Brainers will conduct random giveaways for users after certain sale thresholds are met, awarding users cryptocurrency, NFTs, and even metal posters.
In order to help ensure verifiable randomness in our giveaways, we need access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit. However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent manipulation and ensure system integrity. For instance, RNG solutions derived from blockchain data like block hashes can be exploited by miners/validators, while off-chain RNG solutions derived from off-chain APIs are opaque and don’t provide users with definitive proof about the integrity of the process.
After reviewing various solutions, we selected Chainlink VRF because it’s based on cutting-edge academic research, supported by time-tested oracle infrastructure, and secured through the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The No Brainers NFT smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that our giveaways are provably fair and were not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the No Brainers NFT team.
