This gave me chills. Hailing from a country in Western Europe where such things as racist mobs are unheard of (and illegal, too, whether correctly or not) I find this kind of experience to be truly disturbing.

And it makes me wonder if I’d have the guts to take to the streets if we did have mobs shouting racist epiphets. I saw video footage of Charlottesville with my mouth ajar. I just couldn’t believe I was seeing what I was most defintely seeing.

I agree that this kind of hatred must be confronted. Silence is complicity. If one says nothing, does nothing other than think to oneself ‘oh dear, what losers’, then one is by default reinforcing the idea that they are ‘the silent majority’.

Our lack of action becomes the vaccuum into which racists can occupy.
