Tell us a bit about yourself…

I have been in Sydney for 7 years — I’m a dad of 3 kids; the oldest one is 11 years old and next year she will start high school.

I have many years of experience in the IT industry. After two and a half years of living in Australia and working as a software engineer, my family and I moved to Sydney; then I started to work for some eCommerce companies, like The Iconic. This was the first job that helped me get into the culture of Australian companies. Before that I was only working in Chinese companies.

They’re very different culturally — in some Chinese companies your focus is just finishing your job, but in Australia it’s quite different with more family time after work.

I also really like to do sports, but time is the issue for me as I’ve got young kids — but I hope I can do a little more sport, and I joined the Nod running club last week.

What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?

I like to read, play mobile games, and I like model hobbies — making different cars, buildings etc. This kind of thing takes a long time, but I enjoy it!

What were you doing in the last two hours before this interview?

I have been working on the new implementation system for the on-boarding team, which is what I’ve been focusing on the last few weeks too.

What are your plans after this interview?

I’ll continue my work, and then we have a company meeting and a team lunch. The rest of the day I have meetings to catch up with other team members to plan the week ahead — Monday is usually a day with lots of meetings.

What are you looking forward to most this week?

This Wednesday we’re having a team co-work with the dev guys, and I’ll be refactoring some code to move from the old to new model implementation. This helps us improve the accuracy of the data for the AI — a lot of my work is R&D and researching how to make different aspects and tools better for the dev guys to use.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world…

Jeff Bezos — I think [Amazon] is doing a great job. He started Amazon in his garage, and now that company has become what it is today — and they’ve become the standard for the whole industry. If Steve Jobs were here I’d also like to have dinner with him.

Why Nod?

What attracted me to this company was the AI — and a chance to work in that kind of company. I have a lot of interest in AI, and hopefully I can learn more about the technology in my current role as a dev engineer.
