Research

I followed the theory of the invisible architect which is the idea from Junya Ishigami. Invisible can represent by using transparency material such as glass, but he also tries to think the new scale of architecture and eventually it leads to transparency. He mentioned the air around us seems to have nothing, but in fact, like oxygen, it exists as atoms. However, it’s far from our scale, so it can’t be seen. Therefore, transparency could represent by changing the scale of the architecture. Moreover, he wants to think the about architect on a scale which is related to nature such as the vastness of the sky, the lightness of a cloud, the delicacy of rain. However, the scales that the architecture could not provide until now. This is because the architecture is planned as a shelter to avoid us from a natural environment (Marucci 2016). However, nowadays it’s hard to distinguish between natural environment and artificial environment. The extent of the artificial environment we create is extensive that became an influence on the natural nature. The boundary between the natural environment and the artificial environment became increasingly obscure and it creates a new environment. He thinking about architecture how the construction could be fit in this new environment rather than lament this current situation. Therefore, invisible rephrase as transparency is a proper element to represent that there is no border between architecture and the surroundings.

Iteration

First, for my model iterations, I used the plastic material to represent transparency and try to think in a different shape (Figure 02 & Figure 03). Second, I try to think more about the scale. Therefore I refer to my model as finely as possible by using the wire (Figure 04). Third, I followed one of his model work more specific which was exhibited in ‘How small? How vast? How architecture grows’. He mentioned that moving in the vertical direction about few meters makes the scenery so different (Figure 05).

Final Model

For my final designed, I create the model (Figure 06 & Figure 07) with the reference of his model which is called “Basket & House”. It’s surrounded by plants and animals in the city. Plants and animals can also be seen from the surroundings, so the environment around the house will also change. Is because the plants and animals are uncontrollable. I used the wire and created in finely way as possible to show the different scale from the typical architecture and also to make there is no border between architecture and the surroundings which could be rephrased as nature. Moreover, he thinks that human activities are also a part of the natural environment. Therefore, to complete the project I placed few furniture in the model to give a sense of people life.
