Open Letter to Mrs. Fairfax, Housekeeper at Thornfield Hall
Jul 27, 2017 · 1 min read

You came into your position as a perk of your name. You weren’t born to money but you have your name and because of it a good position. You’re proud to be a housekeeper and not a lowly servant.
You knew about Bertha. You hired Grace Pool yourself. You knew about the womanizing, the illegitimate child. You knew all of it.
You waited until it was too late and told Jane to keep her distance from Mr. Rochester for the sake of propriety, as though she could possibly know what was really at stake. You had the power to protect her and you chose not to.
You, Mrs. Fairfax, are a monster.
