Selfie Revolution

If you think selfies are new, you’re not paying attention.

Here’s the thing. Selfies have been around foreeeeeeever. But for some completely unknown* reason, they are not taken seriously right now.

*because they are associated with young women

So I’ve collected some older selfies — or “self-portraits” — for your consideration.

This is a selfie:

Vincent Van Gogh

This is a selfie:

Frida Kahlo

This is a selfie:

Georges Dheedene

This is a selfie:

Pablo Picasso

This is a selfie:

Henri Rousseau

This is a selfie:

Paul McCartney

This is a selfie:

Lee Friedlander

Notice anything about these selfies that distinguishes them? Oh, they are mostly men and mostly white men at that? And they’re all successful? Hmm. Isn’t that interesting.
