If you can threaten me then I’m not interested

Whether it’s a job, a university class or a relationship, if you have the ability to coerce or threaten me with some sort of repercussion or violence, then count me out. I’m not interested.

Humans live in perpetual fears. Not just one, but a combination. Fear of irrelevance, of being ostracized, of not finding a partner, of not being successful, of dying. Anything really. But the usual human condition is fear.

For too long have we lived under fear-based cultures at work, in our schools, and even at home, under authoritative parent-gods. The time for a thorough revamp of societal preconceptions is long past overdue — or to put it in simpler terms: fear and exploitation are out. Love is in.

When I say Love, I don’t mean the gooey, mushy, hugging and smiling kind of love. I mean the understanding, listening, productive discussion and cooperation kind of love. And when I say fear is out, I mean replacing these dying, cancerous institutions based on fear, with ones embodying the values of Love I mentioned before.

What is the point of learning, or working in an environment where you are in constant tension? What is the point of cooperating under an umbrella of fear? This is not a hypothetical question. This is the society we have created for ourselves. A society based on fear. Based on authority and hierarchy. Based on competition, not cooperation.

What is the point of achieving anything at all, be it the greatest scientific invention or work of art, if throughout the whole process we were unable to be kind to one another. Is that really the only way we can be? Constantly threatening each other in order to ensure order. Is the threat of violence really the only thing keeping society together? If so, then that’s fucked up ain’t it?

What is interesting is that fear goes hand in hand with Father Time. Time, the great constrictor, Time, the bounded, Time, the limiter, Time, our modern God. Time has us running in programmed loops worse than hamsters on a wheel. Time cripples us with insecurity and depreciation. Nothing and no one is good enough for time. Not you, not me, not the worst or best of us. Time is the greatest fear-inducer this side of reality. When it comes to fear, no one does it like Father Time.

The reason Time holds such great sway upon humanity is because of our lack of education on the purpose and meaning of life itself. If only we could listen to the Indians. No, not the American aborigines, but the real Indians, you know, the ones that live in India. Yes, because Indians figured this shit out 10,000 years ago. And they passed this knowledge on from generation to generation, because they realized just how important it is. And they wrote it down, and structured it, and made it all as comprehensible as possible. But still we don’t listen. In the deluge of information that the internet brought upon us, we forgot to pay attention to the real gems of human ingenuity. Ancient ingenuity.

Well ok Nol, what’s this great secret that Indians know? Tell us, enlighten us. Come on, fire away!

Alright. What Indians tell us is that life is boundless. Birth and death are an illusion perpetrated by reality in order to impose the rules of the game. The game we are all currently playing in real-time.

And the game is great. We derive great pleasure from it. It’s fun, exciting, unpredictable and sometimes downright horrible as well. But that’s just the nature of it. This is, in fact, what we want. A game with searing repercussions and pain. A fearful game that immerses us entirely in its realness. It is the Game of God. And we are all God herself. But we have forgotten.

THIS, is the secret of the Indians. We are all God herself. All of us. All playing the same game, entirely oblivious of our true divine and infinite nature. THIS, is the power of illusion, they explain.

Nol, are you fucking kidding me…you think you’re God?

No, I think we are ALL God. Each and every single one of us. A living interpretation of God in all her diverse glory.

…I see. You’re bonkers.

Sure, maybe. But I remind you that it is not me who is claiming this. This is a 10,000 year old science created by the most peaceful and wise nation on earth.

The India of Gandhi — who defeated the strongest, most belligerent nation on earth without using a single weapon.

The India of Buddha (Yes I know he was born in Nepal, but he lived the rest of his life in India, achieved enlightenment and died in India, so I’m gonna say India).

The India that respected women way before it was cool and trending.

THAT India is the one that brought us this Truth. Capital letter T.

So, how am I going to extricate myself from the massive segue I took in this article. Well, I’ll tell you how. I’m gonna pull a Neo.

That’s right. I’m not gonna show you how this ends, only how it begins. Because I don’t know the answer to your problems. I only know that fear is not the answer.

I know that choosing fear will always only lead us away from love and understanding, and no matter how much we think it is necessary, even in the smallest situations, in the long run, it will always turn out badly. For everyone.

So without further ado, I leave you with the gospel of Neo:

‘I know you’re out there. I can feel you now. I know that you’re afraid… you’re afraid of us. You’re afraid of change. I don’t know the future. I didn’t come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it’s going to begin. I’m going to hang up this phone, and then I’m going to show these people what you don’t want them to see. I’m going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.’
