Why We Should Really Be Concerned About the Visual Identity for the Tokyo Olympics

Great essay, but I’m puzzled why you started with Mexico 1968, rather than the Tokyo 1964? Surely a more logical starting point given the points you make, and a missed opportunity to compare and contrast the two examples. There was a huge investment by Japan in the 1964 Olympics — commissions to some of the best Japanese architects of the day, and a not bad identity and icon system. Many of these buildings stand today and are well worth visiting.
