Creative Communication — The Booklet

At Nomadways, we create a booklet with the most efficient creative educational activities after each workshop we do. We believe that our artivistic community should not go home empty-handed and besides the experience at the training course, they should also have access to the context and research we put behind each project. We may add that with our e-booklet of “Creative Communication”, it is the most detailed hands-on piece we have created so far because it includes not only the activities we did at the training course in France but also some powerful insights about digital communication.

About our project

With our project “Creative Communication” we aimed at diving into the complex world of digital communication and at exploring tools and good practices to make it truly creative and meaningful. Our project consisted of two activities: a training course in France to present the concept of digital literacy and a mix of creative and online tools to improve NGO leaders’ online communication. Its purpose was to empower them with new skills, good practices and tools to use in their digital communication. Then, the second activity — a seminar in Bulgaria, invited more artivists and communication professionals to explore the outcomes from the first part of the project. In result, during the seminar, participants were presented our Communication Strategy Canvas and they created one for their current projects and associations. The activities were based on well-developed methods of creative strategies design (such as storytelling, design thinking, service design, buying personas, graphic facilitation and more) which is an approach to resolve issues outside of professional design practice, such as social contexts.

Just before the project started, our communication designer Alexandra Nikolova wrote this piece about communication and its greatest challenges these days.

Creative Communication Booklet

This booklet was created in order to share our learning outcomes with our artivists community and beyond. It contains several chapters that explore the process of building your communication strategy and by doing it, to experiment with more creative and digital tools. We have curated a selection of activities to try with your team and we have outlined the steps to consider all the important elements when designing your messages. With this very short article, we would like to present it to you and invite you to share it with your colleagues, friends, community. Let’s try more creative methods for our communication and enrich this knowledge together — feel free to share your good practice with us using the hashtag #CC2019 and by tagging us on social media with @nomadways!

The first chapter of the book raises a few questions about communication — what is it, what are its goals, how can we find the difference between observing information and jumping into conclusions and interpretations.

Then, we introduce you the Communication Strategy Canvas and the rest of the chapters cover some steps of it — how to discover who are your people, which communication channels do they use and what creative content we can create for them so we can convey our messages properly.

In this first edition of the booklet, we explore mainly the discovery of target audiences, the channels they use and what is the most efficient content to be created for them. Hopefully, it will be enriched, since there are so many things to be added. But for now, enjoy discovering this edition and give us your feedback.
