Coin distribution model:

The ODIN Blockchain’s ‘genesis block’ started on September 28th, 2018 and the initial coin distribution took place in the form of a KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti Money Laundering) registration required claim portal. The motivating factor behind these choices can be traced back to Obsidian and the gross mishandling of that project. Since the coin would be distributed to ODN coin holding community members, the KYC/AML registration required portal was designed to act as a safeguard against bad actors who held a disproportionate amount of ODN. More on this can be read in the ODIN white paper under the ODIN Fair Coin Distribution subheading. There was no initial coin offering (ICO) or initial exchange offering (IEO) for ODIN coin.

Centralized versus Decentralized Exchanges:

Centralized cryptocurrency exchanges (CCE) use intermediaries for the exchange of digital currencies. This is done as a means of generating profit in return for providing a platform by which you can trade on. Centralized exchanges are often the starting point for those newly introduced to cryptocurrencies and include the usual suspects Coinbase, Binance, Bittrex, and Kraken among others. The pros of using a centralized exchange include usability, higher trade volume/liquidity, and in most cases some forms of Fiat (government issued currency such as USD, EUR, and JPY) on and off ramps.

Decentralized exchanges (DEX) aim to remove the third party intermediary reliance and provide a more secure experience for its users. Unlike centralized exchanges, the user is always in full control of their cryptocurrencies via private keys. However, while decentralized and theoretically more secure because of its distribution model, DEXs often (but not always) include user interfaces that many find confusing or difficult to use resulting in fewer users and thus lower trade volume/liquidity and do not include Fiat on and off ramps.

As always, it is recommended that you do thorough research as to the pros and cons of Centralized vs Decentralized exchanges and choose the option that makes the most sense for you.
