How to Buy NPC on Base

The easiest way

3 min readFeb 15, 2024

In late December 2023, Non-Playable Coin (NPC) went multi-chain. We’re now trading on Ethereum and Base.

Here’s how to buy some NPC on Base.

Cheatsheet (before you start)

  • Base is a Layer-2 (L2) network built on Ethereum by Coinbase. It has very cheap transaction fees. Swaps are only a few cents each, perfect for small trades.
  • Base and Ethereum addresses are exactly the same (starting with 0x…) Whichever one you are on depends on the network your wallet is connected to.
  • The explorer for Base is basescan.org.
  • NPC on Ethereum and NPC on Base are identical in value.
  • You can use a standard MetaMask wallet to mint, but we also recommend Rabby as well which is a lot sleeker and a better experience overall. Make sure you add Base to your network list also.
In the top-left corner of Metamask, you can select your network. Add Base to include it to your network list.

btw we’re booooolish on Base and you should be too

Step #1: Getting Your ETH on Base

First, you’re going to need some ETH on Base.

The easiest, fastest way is to simply withdraw ETH on Base from Coinbase.

Buy some ETH on Coinbase or deposit it into Coinbase from another address. Then withdraw and select “Base” instead of “Ethereum.”

Input your desired address and confirm.

Now you have some ETH on Base!

Alternative method: you can use the Official Base Bridge to move ETH from Ethereum to Base. But this is often more expensive than just using Coinbase.

Step #2: Trading NPC on Base

So you now have some ETH on Base, it’s time to trade on the network.

As of March 21st, NPC is trading on Uniswap on Base.

First, visit Uniswap.org and connect with your wallet. Select Base from the drop-down menu.

Copy the contract address for NPC on Base and paste it in the output box.

The address is 0xb166e8b140d35d9d8226e40c09f757bac5a4d87d

Input how much ETH or NPC you want to trade and swap!

And that’s it. You’ve done an NPC-ETH trade on Base.

Step #3: Adding NPC to Your Wallet

After making a trade, you may not see NPC in your wallet. You’ll have to add it manually.

In your MetaMask, go to “import token” and copy-and-paste the contract address for NPC on Base: 0xb166e8b140d35d9d8226e40c09f757bac5a4d87d

Click “Import Tokens” here and copy-and-paste the contract address.

And that’s it, you’ll see your NPC on Base in your MetaMask wallet now.

If you’re using Rabby wallet, click the chart in your wallet and paste the contract address for NPC on Base (0xb166e8b140d35d9d8226e40c09f757bac5a4d87) where the magniflying glass icon is.

Paste the contract address for NPC on Base on Rabby and it’ll pop up

As always, you can check your address on basescan.org where you will find all your transactions and see your NPC via your address.
