Final Project CSE 167 — Blog Post 3

Update: So we have basically finished what we believe we could before the deadline. We were able to implement toon shading to the water but we couldn’t implement the procedural terrain. We could get the terrain to work somewhat but it didn’t work out when we tried to meld our work together. However here is a video of the features we were able to implement.

Water with reflection/refraction, and particle systems implemented

So far we have implemented 1 medium and 2 easy features. In the GIF, we showcase our water which has reflection and refraction with waves. The waves proved a lot more difficult than imagined. The particle system is complete as well — we are planning to replace the cube with a sea animal.

The other easy feature we have implemented is sound — our sound effects include 2D audio with wind and water sounds. The sounds are semi-interactive where you move the camera and different sound effects are played to give the scene a more immersive feel to it.

We are having serious problems trying to implement the procedurally generated terrain and shadow maps. With the lack of tutors it has become almost impossible to make any progress. We are hoping to have some kind of presentable work to show but from what it looks like now we probably won’t be able to implement it fully. There is a lack of tutorials online to follow for these tasks which doesn’t really help at all.

Our hopes for tomorrow’s presentation is to have at least 3 easy features (bump mapping, sound, particle effects) along with water.
