How she embraced martyrdom?

On the 24th of November, 2015 Mariam along with her squadron leader Saqib Abbasi went on a routine fly training mission. She was unaware that Nature is giving her the last chance of flying in the skies. Due to some technical fault in the aircraft FT-7PG, both pilots decided to eject but before ejection, they moved the plane from a populated area to an isolated place. The aircraft crashed near Kundian, Mianwali, Punjab and both the pilots ejected. The squadron leader Saqib Abbasi got minor injuries and survived but Mariam Mukhtiar didn’t survive due to her injuries and embraced martyrdom at the age of 22.

Why Mariam Mukhtiar embraced martyrdom?

Mariam Mukhtiar embraced martyrdom because of delay in ejection. This delay in ejection was because both pilots decided to take risk of moving the aircraft FT-7PG from a populated area to an isolated location so that there is no life loss. Squadron leader Saqib Abbasi survived because he ejected a few seconds earlier than Mariam Mukhtiar.

Mariam Mukhtiar’s desire “To do something different”

In her interview for a BBC reporter, she said “I always wanted to do something that was different from normal routine”. She really joined a different profession that other girls normally don’t opt for. Secondly, she embraced martyrdom that is God-gifted to chosen ones. Indeed she was different from others.

Tamgha-e-Basalat

Mariam Mukhtiar was awarded Tamgha-e-Basalat (Medal of Good Conduct) on the suggestion of Pakistan’s Senate Standing Committee on Defence (SSCD) by the Government of Pakistan. She was awarded because of her valour and devotion towards Pakistan and its people. Her love for humanity can be predicted by her act of ejection after moving aircraft to an isolated location. She along with her squadron tried to save this national asset but all in vain. They both ejected at very low altitudes.

Daughter of Nation:

It would not be wrong to say that Mariam Mukhtiar was the daughter of the nation who devoted her life for her country. She is and will be remembered as a role model for all the women of the world especially, Pakistan. She showed the world a positive face of Pakistan and proved that Pakistani women stand shoulder by shoulder with men.
