“Nobody’s perfect”

A couple of days ago, I took my daughter to a doctor because she had food poisoning and a fever. While we were on our way home, my daughter said, “Dad, I want to be a nobody.”

It caught my attention because we might expect that everyone wants to be a “somebody”; so I asked her, “Why?”

She said, “Nobody’s perfect”!

I was laughing at her way of thinking. But I actually got a new perspective from this conversation with my daughter.

Sometimes when we want to be a “somebody,” we have to trade it off for something else in our lives.

The most important thing is time to enjoy life. Many people choose to work hard to advance their career, without paying any attention to the other things in life.

Many people work day and night for future success, and have to sacrifice their family time. Some might reach their career or financial goals and become a well-known “somebody.”

But the more of a “somebody” they become, the less time they will have. They will have to spend their days in meetings and their evenings going to events as a VIP guest.

And…

when they turn around, they will find that their children have all grown up and are living their own lives.

They will want to turn back time to play with their children like they did when they were little kids, but it will be too late. And when they want to talk to their children, the children might say to their mom or dad, “I can’t. I’m very busy. Someday, I want to be a “somebody” just like you.”

Isn’t that sad?

Wouldn’t it be better to remain a “nobody” who is happy and has time to spend with our loved ones?

Is this the real meaning of “Nobody is perfect”?
