Dialogue

“How is your mother doing darling?”

“Well Deloris, would you like to know her physical or emotional state at the moment?”

“Whatever lets me know that she hasn’t tipped off her rocker.”

“After our talk yesterday I took the slowest way home, but when I arrived approximately at 7:45 pm, Mom wasn’t home yet but as soon as she got home she began to yell at Taylor for being out after curfew with Carson. I’m not sure of all the details because I had a lot of work to do on my genetically engineering printer and simulator 3GX9.”

Emma, a seven-year-old genius, meets Deloris’, an 86-year-old very active and spunky grandma, at her house every day after school. After eating a fresh batch of milk and cookies, Emma rides her bike and Deloris speed walks next to her, sweat band and all. Emma has a hard home life with a single mom who had Taylor, Emma’s older sister, when she was 16 and is never there to provide for her girls. Taylor is 16, invests her time in getting hammered whenever she can get her hands on alcohol and only cares about herself and her abundantly popular senior boyfriend, Carson.

“Deloris, I was nominated for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for my genetical engineering procedures and equipment, but I do not have anybody to provide me with transportation. Do you want to come with me and maybe we can get Brandon to drive us?”
