Thank you. To continue on the radical ideas: more and more documentary filmmakers have been selling directly to their (niche) audiences and have become mini distributors themselves. That’s a possibility for narrative filmmakers as well and I think the future is really of the artist as entrepreneur, wether we like it or not, which does take away from creation but gives us more freedom. I agree with you: we have to stand up together, because without content those platforms won’t have much to do, and empower filmmakers to own their markets and have the toolbox to sell their own content. But audiences need to follow... And because a few indie creators have benefitted from Netflix it may seem like a good deal for indie content, but the truth is that the majority of indie creators (especially from a diversity and inclusion standpoint) won’t get that Netflix deal, and then those who do won’t have the power to keep selling their content again outside of Netlix, Amazon, Hulu, etc, for the very reasons you outlined. We are fired up !
