Mailer still defends him
Mailer Goes Egyptian
The Norman Mailer Society

Mailer continues to interest himself in the fate of writers who have run afoul of the law. A fortnight ago Richard Lowell Stratton came up for trial in Portland, Maine, on drug conspiracy charges; Stratton claims that he was only conducting research for a book on drug smugglers. Mailer got his own agent, Scott Meredith, to represent the book, and is expected to testify on Stratton’s behalf. [Brenner’s note]
