Thailand’s position as China’s favourite travel destination is set to resume, a survey indicates
Bangkok | April 22, 2020: Thailand is one of the travel markets in Asia most impacted by the unfolding COVID-19 crisis. The country hosted 39.8 million international visitors last year, out of which nearly 11 million were from China.
A survey of over 1,000 pre-qualified travellers in China’s first-tier cities in mid-April conducted by C9 Hotelworks and Delivering Asia Communications has indicated that 53% of Chinese travellers would like to travel overseas by the end of this year. 71% said they would like to visit Thailand.
Other findings include:
- China’s regional and low-cost airlines have resumed flying;
- Thailand’s close proximity and vast network of approved air routes to China still work in the country’s favour; and
- The recent appreciation of the Chinese Yuan against the Thai Baht means that Thailand now offers greater value for Chinese tourists.
