Iceland — A Winter Road Trip

This is a photo-story of my 8th visit to Iceland. I come back every year since 2009 and often for several months with my own car, travelling back and forth all around the island. Winter has clearly become my favorite travel season of the year: The days are short, but the weather and especially the light is something that totally fascinates me. And if none of the wild winter storms is sweeping across the country, you can spend a lot of time outdoors, since the climate is generally very mild for this northerly latitude. Winter also offers the unique opportunity to experience a lot of beautiful places almost deserted, which is unimaginable during high season — especially when you travel to North and the East of the island. I like to take it slow and spend at least two or three days at one location — otherwise it feels that you are on the road all the time and just passing through…

Iceland has become an important constant of my life. I don’t really have a place I would call home here in Germany, since I moved so many times in the last couple of years. Iceland really feels like home to me and it always levels me out, since there is almost no place where you get in any kind of hectic or stressful situation. It almost feels like time is not running that fast up here in the North … Being a Freelance Photographer and Graphic Designer, I love to take my work with me and I’m so thankful for having the chance to come back here every year. I will continue to do so or move here after all …

All photos were taken in November 2015. My trip took me from Reykjavík to Höfn and back to Keflavík International Airport. More photos can be found on my Behance-portfolio or on my website northlandscapes.com
