A response to Feminist Current
So a while back, I wrote an article both condemning the actions of Jess Bradley if they were found to have been unlawful or inappropriate. While also criticising the the way that some anti-trans activists were trying to use said actions to justify a prejudice against all trans people — and also as a vehicle to invalidate Jess’ and other trans women’s identities.
Feminist Current were amongst many anti-trans activists who covered and misrepresented the whole point. And whereas I don’t want to rehash exactly how and why I was misrepresented, I do want to use this as an opportunity to hopefully start a dialogue. Which I’m going to do by criticising some of the finer points of the argument made by the writers.
So here goes nothing…
But the feminist argument for retaining and safeguarding female spaces is not about transwomen per se. It is about male people — the sex class into which all transwomen were born.
First, lets be completely honest… This isn’t the “feminist” argument. As there are many different versions of feminism which have different takes on trans people. It would be better to say this is the “radical feminist” argument — but even then…
