Labour MP Rosie Duffield says something transphobic then asks “but why are you calling me transphobic?”

5 min readAug 6, 2020

It sounds like a Clickhole article but its actually 100% real.

Labour has repeatedly come under fire by activists online, including myself, for its lackluster approach to tackling transphobia within the party. This including the now leader of the party, Keir Starmer, refusing to sign the Labour Trans Pledge which set out the bare minimum of being trans supportive in 2020 as a political entity. This along with Labour members having been suspended from the party for transphobic abuse and harassment, all whilst other transphobes take to the hashtag #ExpelMe and beg for expulsion every time Labour does or says anything trans supportive.

So it should come as no surprise to anyone that when yet another Labour party member and actual elected MP says something transphobic there has been fairly widespread backlash. Not all of it pleasant or polite, but then again neither is transphobia no matter how much you try to pretty it up or claim its “protecting women’s rights”. Many; including a Twitter account calling itself Labour Women’s Network and also the Archbishop of Canterbury for some reason, have stepped into support Labour MP Rosie Duffield whilst blatantly ignoring the whole transphobia part of this story. Because of course they have.
