The UK rules “Mothers” is a gender neutral term

For the benefit of Mumsnet: gender neutral and sex neutral mean the same thing in UK law. Trans men are legally recognised as male and men because there is no legal distinction between these two words. You absolute spoons.

A bill meant to provide protections and support for those who get pregnant has been the source of nontroversy in a small section of the UK for a while now. The bill was originally written with gender neutral terminology, which is apparently the accepted convention for draft legislation. However transphobes kicked up a fuss about this and it seems they have somewhat successfully managed to persuade the UK government to not use that gender neutral language in the final legislation.

I say somewhat successfully because they haven’t really achieved what they set out to do. They claim they want to have women explicitly included in legislation by name, as in you have to specifically say “women”. They claim this is to avoid the erasure of women from politics and law with some Lords even citing the low number of laws which mention women by name. The reality however is that they’re just transphobic.

You see, transphobes have been on a crusade for many years now to avoid giving any validity or support to the fact that transgender people are legitimate. This includes a wholesale denial of things like…
