Transphobe barred from Macclesfield pub because transphobia sucks
This is Rebekah Wershbale, who claims to have been absolutely stunned by being asked to leave the Five Clouds Tap and Bottle in Macclesfield recently. Her claim is that she did nothing wrong, and that this has been wholly unreasonable. And doesn’t believe herself to be transphobic.
If you’re reading this Beki. You’re wrong. This was completely reasonable, you have done something wrong and you most definitely are transphobic.
First of all, let’s look at what Beki said in her Daily Mail puff piece, which not only tried to frame her as the victim… But also made sure to include that she’s a mother! As if that was at all relevant to the story and as if many of the trans women she’s campaigning against the rights of aren’t mothers too. Spoiler: there’s more trans mothers than you’d guess!
Ms Wershbale said: ‘She <pub staff> told me that the T-shirt I was wearing was upsetting people because it was transphobic and not inclusive so I was barred. What she meant was that I was somehow offending men who say they are women because my T-shirt did not include them in the definition of a woman. There aren’t even any transgender staff or patrons at the pub. It’s crackers.’
Okay so… It doesn’t matter if there are or aren’t any trans people in a 10 mile radius of you, let alone in the pub. Your behaviour, beliefs and straight up bull shit don’t get less transphobic because no trans is around to hear it. If we transplant racism here, and you went in wearing a KKK hood — do you think “but there wasn’t even any black people around” would cut it as an excuse? Heck no it wouldn’t.
As for “offending men who say they are women” — through your ideological lens perhaps. Not through the view of the pub staff or the other pub goers clearly. You’re entitled to your view of course, but people aren’t obliged to have to support that view. Likewise with the racism comparison, nobody can stop someone from being racist but this doesn’t mean we need to tolerate their existence around us. Absolutely not.
Those who seek to exclude and ostracise people in our society, are ironically and fairly deservedly excluded and ostracised themselves. It’s karmic justice. Why do you think transphobes who think trans women are men and seek to exclude them deserve any different?
The stance that trans women are men is transphobic. You having this belief makes you personally transphobic. You know this and I don’t know or understand how you can even begin to pretend otherwise. And no, “I have trans friends… But only ones who agree with my dumb ideology” doesn’t get you a free pass.
Nobody is falling for your “I have Black friends” tier bullshit, pull the other one.
I asked if she thought it was troubling that I was being removed from my own local because I was wearing a feminist T-shirt that had upset a gay man. But she just repeated I wasn’t being inclusive.’
It’s not troubling. You decided to be a proudly prejudiced dipshit. The pub decided they didn’t want you turning other people off their pints. Again, the pub would be well within its rights to do this for any other prejudiced nonsense like racism or homophobia, why does transphobia get a free pass?
However, she insisted she was not transphobic and is only against the reform of the law because she believes it could put women’s safety at risk by allowing men who say they are female access to women-only spaces.
Except time and time again we’ve proven this to be false. Women’s spaces, such as bathrooms are not governed by law. Nor do they actually have anyone checking your ID, genitals and chromosomes on the door. They operate on a self ID basis already. The reforms to the gender recognition act won’t affect this at all, as they are purely bureaucratic in allowing trans people to more quickly and easily assess the gender recognition certificate — which is not needed for entry into any women’s spaces.
Not to mention countries which already allow self ID for legal recognition have not reported any increase in violence against women in these spaces. There’s literally no supporting evidence for the claims you’re making, there is only prejudice propping this shit stack up.
Tory MP David Davies said: ‘Terrifyingly this insidious creep of open debate no longer being tolerated and freedom of speech being suppressed is now spreading from our university campuses to the streets of our historic market towns. It is a very sad day when a woman is barred from her pub for wearing a T-shirt that states the obvious because it might offend transgender people.’
The shirt itself and the definition isn’t the issue you massive homophobe (which he definitely is, considering his voting record against gay marriage) . It’s what it represents and the intention behind it. This definition is being weaponised against trans rights and inclusion, despite not actually excluding us.
If isn’t difficult to include trans women in the definition of female, from a psychological, social, legal and to a large extent biological stand point. Heck, many trans women would already describe ourselves as adult human females - my self included. Even despite knowing that my body objectively started on the male developmental path, and that it’s impossible to wholly switch paths currently.
And for the big finale…
I’d like to say a huge thank you to those who stood up for trans people in this incident. Both the pub and the patrons have my heart and if I’m ever up your way you can bet I’ll be coming to get a few drinks in for the gang! You guys did an amazing thing taking a stance for trans people, a stance a lot of people are still too afraid to take. I hope that your actions inspire them to do the right thing too. Thank you so much! You fucking rock. ❤
