Do Women Really Want Equality?

Catch up with feminism — I think modern feminist thinking does understand that gender inequity is damaging to everyone, not just women. The culture of patriarchy restricts our boys and men from so many things — simply expressing emotion for one. It’s not about everyone doing all the same things (there are many reasons I don’t want to be a neurosurgeon, but my vagina isn’t one of them); it’s about everyone (man, woman, gender non-conforming) having the freedom and opportunity to make their own choices based on what’s best for themselves, their partner, and their families. Many of the supports set up for women to succeed in traditionally male fields DO miss the mark, but maybe instead of asking whether we really want equality (which is impossible anyway, equity is a much better expression for what I work towards, at least) you should ask if we really want to continue to live in a world where men are only valued for what they earn, women are only valued for their bodies, and anyone who doesn’t fit into one of those two boxes isn’t valued at all.
