Picking a Collection is a Roadblock
Medium has done a fantastic job building a first class writing experience. Working into the template, contextual formatting, notes, and collaboration are all great features. But one very large roadblock presents itself as soon as I want to start writing. A new post requires that I know what collection it’s going into. I often don’t know at the time I’m ready to start getting ideas onto the page. And if I pick a collection indiscrimantly, there is no easy way to change the collection at a later date.
The framework of collections is good. It forces people to put a bit more thought into what they are saying and putting out into the world. But there is also a benefit to just getting the words on the page without worrying where they belong yet.
Perhaps picking the right place for post can happen after it’s been written. Maybe even provide the data for a smarter collection recommendation engine.
