The Indonesian government seems to let go of their responsibility of providing sufficient sex ed to parents. Unfortunately, not all parents can educate their kids about sex, nor are they religious enough to raise their kids to value other people by their personality and not as lustful objects.
I do believe Islam provides the best preventive measure against rape, unfortunately Indonesian Muslims ourselves are insincere in implementing it. In Islam, parents should separate siblings’ bedrooms since childhood to prevent unnecessary attractions. When a Muslim saw someone/something that stimulates lust in his/her mind, they should lower their gaze. Hijab for women actually prevents her from being judged by her physical complexion. Catcalling and pornography is forbidden in Islam.
Then if a man commits rape, he will be punished with 100 lashes (if he’s unmarried) and death penalty (if he’s married) — this is not the case in Indonesia’s lenient jail punishment. Put supposed the rapist got away, Almighty God will punish him in the hell fire, and the innocent rape victim will go to heaven, God-willingly.
