DIDΒ JESUSΒ TURNΒ WATERΒ INTOΒ WINE?
The Book of John is an account of Jesusβ life and ministry. Chapter 2 details a miraculous event where Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding feast in Cana of Galilee. Verses 1β11 provide an in-depth description of the miracle. That was the beginning of Jesusβ performing a miracle, as it is claimed.
Let me show you how the miracle of turning water into wine is happening all the time in your pulmonary blood circulation.
Blood circulation is essential for the survival of all living organisms. It is the process of transporting oxygen, nutrients, and hormones throughout the body.
Blood circulation can be divided into two main types: pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation.
Pulmonary circulation is the movement of deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation and back to the heart again.
Systemic circulation is when oxygenated blood moves from the heart to different organs and tissues so they can get the nutrients they need and remove waste gases like carbon dioxide that the body doesnβt need.
Both types of blood flow are important for all of the bodyβs systems to work well.
Concerning the miracles of changing water into wine, let me quickly show you what is happening in your pulmonary circulation, as this is where the miracle is taking place in you.
First of all, you may already be aware that in human anatomy, blood without enough oxygen is depicted as blue, while blood with enough oxygen is depicted as red.
These colors are symbolic; they mean something and stand for something.
Aside from human biology, did you also know that the color blue has always stood as the symbol of water?
Do you know that wine is usually red?
Now, letβs compare and contrast these colors (symbols) clearly.
First of all, if the color βblueβ stands for blood that doesnβt have enough oxygen in the pulmonary arteries, then the same color stands for water.
Letβs swap between deoxygenated blood in the pulmonary arteries and blue as the symbol of water, such that deoxygenated blood in the pulmonary arteries should be referred to as βwater.β
Secondly, if the color red represents oxygenated blood in the pulmonary veins, letβs swap oxygenated blood in the pulmonary veins for red wine, such that oxygenated blood in the pulmonary veins is now called βred wine.β
Letβs now call the blood in the pulmonary arteries βwaterβ and the blood in the pulmonary veins βwine.β
Breathing is the only way for your body and all its organs to take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide.
Oxygen is the most essential element for your body.
The alveoli in the lungs look much like bunches of grapes used for wine production.
Isaiah 27:2 βOn that day, sing unto her, A vineyard of red wine.β
The alveoli and pulmonary capillaries both share the same membrane, which lets gases move freely between them.
As this exchange of gases takes place, one may notice how the color of the blood changes from bluish-purple to bright red; this is analogous to turning water into wine.
Therefore, when you take a deep breath, imagine the miracle of turning water into wine happening within you rather than in Galilee.
The agent responsible for the water-to-wine transformation within you is oxygen. The authors of the Bible personified oxygen as Jesus Christ, but it does not have a personality.
Oxygen plays a crucial role in the bodyβs metabolic processes, and its entry into the bloodstream is a critical step in keeping humans healthy. Once oxygen gets into the bloodstream, it is sent to all the cells in the body, where it is used to make energy that powers all the bodyβs functions. This process helps keep our organs functioning properly and keeps us alive.
Just because the Bible says that Jesus did a miracle, we donβt even question its scientific basis. Our religious beliefs have been like a blindfold, making it hard for us to understand what the ancient Greek and Roman storytellers were trying to say. To change reality, they filled their writings with a wide range of symbolic and figurative language and compared it to real-life personality traits. However, these were just abstract ideas.
It is said that the miracle of turning water into wine happened during a wedding feast in Cana of Galilee. Do you ever wonder which couple is actually getting married?
Since marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman, letβs examine the pulmonary blood vessels through the lens of marriage. Blood is carried by the pulmonary arteries from the right side of the heart, and they branch to the pulmonary arterioles. The arterioles and venules meet. The junction of arterioles and venules is known as the capillary bed. This is where the male and female meet and where the water-to-wine transformation occurs.
Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
The circulatory and respiratory systems are linked in a way that makes it impossible for one to work without the other. The respiratory system makes it easier for gas to move from one place to another or for water to turn into wine.
When you exhale, carbon dioxide and other waste products from red blood cells leave the alveolar wall and enter the atmosphere.
When you inhale, oxygen enters your bloodstream and binds to hemoglobin molecules, changing the color from bluish-purple to bright red.
This is the change from water blue to wine red.
Notice that the alveolar walls are wrapped or surrounded by a network of capillaries. At one end of the capillaries are the arterioles, and at the other end are the venules.
This can be seen in the book of Exodus 28:33β34.
And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about: A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about.
