To the Mount Sinai Board of Trustees:

As faculty and staff at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, we are saddened and profoundly disturbed by the allegations raised against individuals at our institution and described in the lawsuit filed by former and current employees of Mount Sinai. The lawsuit alleges behaviors of bullying and misogyny that are not consistent with the values of our institution. We believe that decisive action is necessary to send a clear message that our institution is committed to equity, accountability, and mutual respect.

Our institution values a culture of respect and collaboration, where all members of the Mount Sinai community are treated with the dignity they deserve. We call for a culture shift to call out those who are not in keeping with this standard.

We write to you, the Mount Sinai Board of Trustees, to act now to:

  • Conduct an investigation using an external consultant into the nature of these claims and enforce a zero-tolerance harassment policy;
  • Hold all parties accountable for their actions;
  • Open a compliance hotline run by a third party to allow a voice for any additional concerns;
  • Become a signatory organization to Time’s Up Healthcare, a national organization aiming to eliminate harassment and discrimination.

It is our duty to educate and support the future generation of physicians, educators, and scientists and we believe it is critical that our trainees witness a model of equity and inclusion free from bullying and intimidation. We together pledge to uphold the Mount Sinai Code of Conduct that states:

“As an organization, Mount Sinai recognizes that our trustees, officers, executives, employees, physicians and volunteers who serve our institutions are our greatest assets. Mount Sinai is committed to providing an employment setting that treats all individuals with fairness, dignity and respect and affords them an opportunity to grow, to develop professionally and to work in a team environment.”

We are committed to the values of Mount Sinai.
We support each other in mutual accountability.
We believe that voices should not be silenced.
We trust those who report abuse.
We embrace diversity.
We are Mount Sinai.

Click here to sign the original letter, which will be delivered to the Mount Sinai Board of Trustees. Signatures will be updated here by end of each day.

Sincerely,
