Here, participants engage with history directly, gaining hands-on experience with the legacies that have shaped the musical domain.

The Foundation’s efforts in educational outreach include curating programs that animate the narrative of music history, connecting learners with the archival heritage of King Records, and facilitating interactive workshops. DAY 01

The initial day at the 1819 Innovation Hub marked the commencement of CREATE 1.0, laying the groundwork for inventive thought and creative interaction. DAY 02

The second day brought participants to the Heidt Center within Best Point’s Madisonville campus and Medpace, where the concepts from Day 01 were refined and expanded. The Heidt Center offered an interactive space for participatory displays and immersive discussions, engaging the community and Medpace’s experts. The day’s activities were designed to promote an exchange of ideas that align with the community’s needs and aspirations while maintaining the empirical standards exemplified by Medpace.

Facilitating Design Thinking In Workshop Facilitation

The CREATE workshop boxes are the collaborative creation of the NIS Student group and the 1819 Makerspace, serving as tangible representations of the initiative’s dedication to integrating design thinking into workshop facilitation. These laser-cut containers are not simple kits; they are instruments crafted to enrich the comprehension of the topic, essential questions, and practice of design thinking. This methodology, characterized by its non-linear and iterative nature, empowers teams to gain a deeper understanding of user needs, question preconceived notions, redefine challenges, and develop and test innovative solutions.

Each box contains a curated material selection that stimulates imagination and encourages collaborative efforts. Among these resources, the ‘How Might We’ canvases stand out, providing structured prompts that guide users to approach problem-solving with empathy and insight. These canvases, along with topic-specific prompts and key questions, aim to refine the creative process to ensure a balance of focus and originality in creativity.

Supplementing these conceptual tools are concrete items for creation, such as post-it notes, writing instruments, and presentation boards. These enable participants to transform intangible ideas into tangible representations, promoting an active exchange of ideas.

Individual Music Space:

The high-level focus of Activity 01 centered on the personal impact of music to uncover and understand the deep connections individuals form with music. This activity was structured to provide insights into the emotional and psychological influences of musical experiences on students from Best Point and Heidt Center. By facilitating a reflective process, the activity aligns with the University of Cincinnati students’ focus on user-centered design thinking. It emphasizes the importance of personal narratives in developing educational content resonant and responsive to the needs and experiences of the learners. The activity’s introspective nature allows UC students to empathize with diverse perspectives, enriching their approach to creating inclusive and practical solutions.

Individual Music Space:

Activity 02 explored the potential future of music centers from the students’ perspectives, encouraging them to envision innovative and functional spaces for music education. This activity aligned with the University of Cincinnati students’ objective of transforming traditional educational environments. It challenges them to apply their interdisciplinary knowledge and design thinking skills to conceptualize music centers that facilitate learning and inspire creativity and well-being. By engaging in this activity, UC students practice bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application, a key component in their academic development and future professional endeavors.
