Best Chrome Extensions Utilizing ChatGPT (Updated April 2023)

In this article, I will be presenting a selection of Chrome extensions that showcase and extend the usability of ChatGPT technology. It’s important to note that this list will be periodically updated as I discover new and exciting extensions that make use of ChatGPT. Additionally, the extensions featured in this article are only the ones that I have personally tried and can vouch for.

I hope that this article helps you discover some new and useful extensions for your Chrome browser. And I’d appreciate your comment with more extensions if you tried some.

Perplexity AI

This is absolutely amazing, add the extension and download the iOS app if you have iPhone and enjoy a new AI-powered search experience.

Perplexity allows you, using its extension to search in the internet, a domain, or a certain page and give AI instructions like asking them to search in a certain site or summarize an article.

It can also check reviews for a product or a movie, research a topic in reddit, and more!

It also adds sources you can get back to so its amazing in research. It’s pretty amazing!

1- GPTAnywhere

Access ChatGPT directly from your browser, from any tab. This one has been the most smooth of all the ones I tried in this category.

It uses your own account, so you have to be signed in to be able to use it.

2- ChatGPT Chrome Extension

As a usability, it’s like the one before, but the difference is that it loads the full ChatGPT in the frame, so you can access your saved chats too.

3- Merlin — OpenAI powered browser assistant

My ultimate favorite extension so far. Merlin is your assistant, it allows you to:

Right-click on any text and give context to Merlin AI pop-up
Highlight any text and press CTRL+G/CMD+G to load it into ChatGPT and write the prompt you want either rephrase/summarize or whatever.
Appear in Google search and allows you to ask the search query to ChatGPT
Doesn’t need you to have ChatGPT account!
PS: It’s currently free to use to start with for all the V1 users, but it seems like it might be paid later on.

4- InboxPRO for Gmail

AI-powered Email assistance that has many cool features like calendar scheduling, tracking, templates, followups, email analytics and more.

But it’s on this list because it has “Magic compose” which allows you to use OpenAI ChatGPT to:

5- GPT3-slack

If you use Slack on web, this one is a must-have. It allows you to :

Check the grammar of your messages.
Write prompt responses in a proper way

I use it daily, I've switched to Slack web just to use it :D

This one needs a little bit of setup, but it’s pretty easy (You must have ChatGPT account):

Get your API key from OpenAI’s website: https://openai.com/api/
Click on the extension icon.
Paste your key and save.
Open Slack in your browser and enjoy!

6- GPT-3 Meta Descriptions

This extension is useful if you have a webflow website.

It generates SEO titles and descriptions straight from the Webflow Designer. Open the page settings, click the new ‘Generate Title’ or ‘Generate Description’ button and add your keywords! Additionally, add info on the page’s purpose to provide OpenAI GPT-3 some additional context.

All meta titles generated by this plugin are capped at 70 characters. Meta descriptions are capped at 160 characters.

7- Compose AI: AI-powered Writing Tool

Compose AI is one of the most awesome AI-writing assistants on browsers out there. It has a great array of features:

Autocompletes your sentences anywhere you type.
Professionally reply to emails with a single click! Like magic, generated responses will reference the context from the original email.
With Rephrase, you can change how you word your sentences without having to rewrite anything. Highlight a text to shorten, expand, reword, or make something sound more friendly or formal.
Powered by Open AI and GPT-3, Compose Now is an AI assistant for writing messages. It’s great for drafting quick replies or generating ideas you can edit to make your own.

8- WritingMate.ai — an OpenAI GPT-3 assistant

Another GPT-3 writing assistant that simply adds a nice crystal icon to your browser side, or works by CTRL+G shortcut that opens a side panel that allows you to submit prompts and gives you the replies powered by OpenAi GPT3 -not necessarily ChatGPT though.

The main appeal in my opinion here is that it doesn't need an OpenAI account to work.

9- GPT-Prompter

This one is a bit advanced but damn amazing!

It allows you to create custom prompts and use them from the context menu. Fantastic usability and space to create.

It’s open source also so you can do lots of stuff. Check the video for a better understanding of what you can do.

All you need to do is have an account and generate an API key. Awesome tool!

10- ChatGPT for Google

This awesome and simple extension just adds a panel to the write of your search to show you the reply of ChatGPT on your google search query, what I like about it is:

Doesn’t need an OpenAI account
Allows you to toggle between automatic and manual, so when you search on google, you can choose to either automatically get the ChatGPT reply, or make it so that you can manually query or not.
Also works on Code highlights
And is open-source
