It is January 11, 1995. Jemmie Whisenant, 15, decides to kill Nevada Davis. She is his father’s live-in girlfriend and he has interpersonal problems with her.

Nevada returns home from a shopping trip. Whisenant creeps up behind her as she carries groceries and attacks her with a knife. He cuts her throat and stabs her in the neck.

He forces her into their home and into the bathroom and orders her to lean over the bathtub so that her blood can wash down the drain.

For the next two hours, Whisenant repeatedly cuts Nevada with the knife, all while she begs for her life. During this torture session, he calls several friends on the phone “just to talk.”

Nevada survives the knife wounds. So Whinsenant tries to suffocate her. But that doesn't work either.

Whisenant strangles Nevada with shoestrings. This murder method proves successful. Nevada is finally dead. Now Whisenant must conceal his involvement in Nevada’s murder.

Whisenant cleans the bathroom. He then proceeds to drag Nevada’s body outside and lay her on a sidewalk leading to their home. He takes items from her purse and scatters her groceries on the sidewalk to stage a theft-murder.

Ultimately, Whisenant is caught and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison. The Ohio Teen Killer Empowerment Act gives him a parole hearing in March 2022. He is denied parole. Another hearing is scheduled for January 2025.
