How Millennials are Changing the Real Estate Market

Millennials are the largest generation since the baby boomers, and they are shaking up the real estate market with their sheer numbers and buying power. Currently 66% of all first-time home buyers are Millennials, and they have a long list of demands. At the top of their lists are things like large kitchens, open floor plans, solar panels, updated kitchens and baths, home offices, and good cell service.

More Millennials use the services of Real Estate Agents because they need help navigating the process and they are more likely to trust the professionals. Real Estate Agents can also play a huge role in getting Millennials in the door — this is the generation that spends three hours or more researching a sweater before buying, so home listings with great pictures are more likely to get Millennials through the door to see the property in person. Over half of them are finding properties they want to see on their cell phones, where they are already spending copious amounts of time anyway, and 99% of them are looking at online listings in general, much more than the general population. Good listings can be very effective.
