The Hardest Thing About Dating Culture for Millennials

When you think about Millennials, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it “adulting” or “BAE” or the incessant use of smartphones at all hours of the day and night? It’s true, Millennials have a slightly different relationship with the world around them than previous generations have had. But does different mean bad? Not usually.

Those smartphones keep them connected with their friends and family in a way no generation has ever been connected to each other before. Dating apps have taken the place of pickup bars and other ways of meeting people that now seem antiquated. It’s a lot easier to find a good relationship match when a computer algorithm has already done some of the work for you.

The lingo Millennials use for dating these days seems very different, but when you really crack it open it’s basically the same. BAE seems like a weird or lazy word, but it really stands for “before anyone else,” which makes it seem a lot more serious than most people initially thought. Ghosting is another confusing term, but when you realize it’s just giving someone the brush-off, again it doesn’t seem all that different.
