What Do You Really Know About the Drugs You Take?
When was the last time you went to the doctor and then sat there like a deer in headlights when he asked you about your medication use? Even under the best of circumstances nearly two million people per year are hospitalized for using properly prescribed medications, and your likelihood for complications goes up with every vitamin, supplement, and other medication you are taking without telling your doctor. Over 120,000 people die every year from medications they are prescribed by doctors, so it’s important to be sure nothing you are taking will interfere with medications you need to stay healthy and alive.
Just because something is prescribed by a doctor doesn’t mean it is harmless. There are certain diabetes medications that have been linked to bladder cancer, and opioid prescriptions are often leading to lifelong problems with addiction. In fact, Attorney General Loretta Lynch has stated marijuana is no longer considered to be a gateway drug, but rather the gateway drugs are prescription pain medications. Even Tylenol can be dangerous when taken incorrectly- nearly half of all diagnosed liver failures are due to taking too much acetaminophen.
