Bitcoin, so hot right now
Bitcoin2014 and what the next year could bring.
Things are hot in bitcoin land. Bitcoin is getting all teed up to be projected into the mainstream.
I have recently spent the 2 weeks traveling around Europe with my old friend and legendary Bitcoin angel investor, Trace Mayer. After bouncing around, we ended our adventures in Amsterdam for the attendance of the Bitcoin2014 conference put on by the Bitcoin Foundation.
I’ll keep it short. Here are three things I see happening in the next year from bitcoin.
- More intellectual capital.
Smart people flock together. More and more of the movers and shakers of tech are migrating into bitcoin. I see that trend increasing rapidly in the coming months. Why? Because the smartest kids in their classes from Harvard and Princeton have been playing with bitcoin for a couple years now. These math and tech wizards will build the foundation to allow for complete market adoption.
2. Seamless payments and banking.
My mom needs this. Whether online shopping or tracking finances, bitcoin can help her with eliminating the struggle of credit cards and fees. The two players here are Circle and Coinbase.
A quick note on Coinbase with their awesome new payment pages that eliminates those annoying bitcoin addresses. Check mine @ https://coinbase.com/npearson

Circle is no longer a mystery. The beta product was launched at Bitcoin2014 by CEO, Jeremy Allaire. It was amazing. Circle is essentially an online bank with no fees and immediate satisfaction. They have everything that goes into a recipe for consumer adoption; incredible design, easy to use interface, great team with big connections, good VCs, following regulations, financial institution partnerships, customer account insurance, free customer service, no fees, big marketing budget and more. We should all thank Circle for doing it right. P.S. Get $10 of bitcoin if you create an account with Circle.
3. Big marketing
My mom doesn’t know she needs bitcoin yet, but she will soon. Over the coming year I believe bitcoin will organically spread through communities and online networks. Millions have already touched it from the press released in past months, but with venture funds investing more capital into bitcoin startups we will start seeing bigger marketing budgets. Who knows, maybe bitcoin will soon be on during the Super Bowl.
We can all benefit from the human capital and investment dollars spilling into bitcoin by getting involved early. Once that price starts rallying $50 dollars a day, it is time to start loading in.
