This is eluding me still—is “leveraged practices” synonymous with “technology,” broadly speaking? I’m reading this as suggesting a distinction between technology and culture where the distinguishing feature of the former is its ability to be picked up by people in diverse settings (e.g. Banks/heptapods). Is that an adequate reading?
