Madiba's football team historic win DUT residence League

DUT residence League final held at Curies Fountain Stadium on Thursday night in Durban, the Madiba House residence football team took against their viral opponent, Urban View residence.

Both teams gave it their all to win in a tight and exciting battle. Ultimately, Madiba House emerged victorious, claiming both the match and the regional league championship as well as the prize money of 25,000 rand. After a close game against their rivals, the Madiba House residence team emerged victorious from the DUT residence. Sfundo Hlongwane, the Madiba House’s center midfielder, led the team and scored the game’s winning goal in the remaining minutes. The Madiba team, who had been practicing hard all season and was determined to win the title, found the triumph exceptionally exciting.

The fans of both sides were singing and yelling throughout the game, creating an incredible atmosphere. Neither team was able to take the upper hand in the closely contested game. Luyanda Khanyile of the Madiba House team was a continual menace throughout the game, posing a challenge to the Urban View house defense with his speed and talent.

Hlongwane made the breakthrough, giving the Madiba team the lead with a brilliant goal. The Madiba team was victorious in the Durban University of Technology residence league after the match, ending 1–0.

According to Mxolisi Mthiya, a 22-year-old resident of Madiba House and member of the soccer team, “We encountered many challenges, as all soccer teams faces, to the point that we would sometimes misunderstood each other and we also had to balance between our studies and training but because we were striving for the same goal, we were able to achieve our goal, I must say, this is the greatest feeling.”

Mthiya went on to say that the victory would go down in DUT Residential League history as one of the most important occasions. Long into the next day, the Madiba team and supporters continued to dance and chant in celebration of their victory.

The Madiba team’s success in the DUT residence league served as evidence of their diligence and commitment. They demonstrated the value and viability of effort and teamwork. Their victory will be cherished for years to come, and they serve as an inspiration to all DUT students.

Every year, the Durban University of Technology come together for the Residence League competition. With over 100 participants, it’s also one of the most competitive and excellent events on the university calendar. The 2023 event has now been won by the Madiba team.
