Precaution: I am trying my best to give a short spoiler-free review on this movie and please understand that I am not an expert, not even close. Therefore this review is purely based on my view as one of those common people who enjoy watching movies.

Dunkirk

Directed by Christopher Nolan

IMDb: 8.9/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 92%

Metacritic: 94

Concisely, the film Dunkirk is a storytelling of an event during the World War II in the most humane way possible. Dunkirk itself is a city in France. This movie mostly sets and captures the evacuation of around 340,000 soldiers within the Dunkirk area. The film’s narrative is divided into three parts that cover three different periods of time, so Nolan is basically using one of narrative techniques named disjointed timeline. I have been rooting for Nolan x Zimmer duo since the beginning of The Dark Knight Trilogy, so for me, the scores are just heavenly. I dare you all to ignore the emotion I get both from the shots and the scores because I just can’t. Moreover, this film is also supported by great casting. Even Harry Styles, whose acting career has just started, doesn’t even disappoint me at all. If you are looking for a war movie with lots of explosions and gun fires then this movie is simply not for you. For me, it is beyond that. I read a lot of people talking about Dunkirk being the best war movie after Saving Private Ryan but for me, it is the best war movie made after Schindler’s List (that is only because I don’t even like Saving Private Ryan that much).
