Questions for Residential HVAC Repair Experts

Residential HVAC systems experience a lot of wear and tear and can, therefore, develop serious issues over time. When this happens, the best thing you should do is to call a residential HVAC repair company. But how do you know you’re hiring the right contractor? There are several ways to separate the wheat from the chaff, and one of these is to ask the following questions:

Are you licensed and certified?

The answer to this question is always “Yes”. All HVAC contractors are required to have the EPA 608 certification from the Canadian Environmental Protection Agency. Depending on the state, they might also need to have an HVAC contractor’s license that’s issued by the state licensing board. So, when hiring an HVAC contractor, choose one who has a valid license and certification.

Are you fully insured?

Generally, contractors are required to obtain insurance before they can get a license. However, it won’t hurt to ask and find out on your own! Make sure your HVAC contractor has a worker’s compensation insurance and general liability insurance, along with other types of cover. To verify, call their insurer and ask if the company’s insurance policies are active.

Can you give me a few references?

Reputable HVAC company is always willing to provide references since they know their other clients are happy with their service. Be wary of contractors who hesitate to provide references or tell you that they don’t have any to give. They might be hiding botched projects (and dissatisfied clients) they don’t want you to know about, or they might simply have zero experience in the industry and you’re literally their first client.

What HVAC brands do you carry?

If you’re planning to install new HVAC equipment or replace new ones, make sure to hire a contractor who carries multiple brands. This way, you’ll have lots of makes and models to choose from, which means you’ll ultimately find the unit that perfectly suits your needs and budget.
