How I plan to learn Spanish
I graduated in 2016 and I somehow lost interest in my love for languages. During my university days, I had enrolled in a Spanish and Swedish course. However, with time, I stopped investing time in learning languages. However, as I write this blog post, I have decided to come up with a plan to start investing 30–60 minutes every day, to learn and master the Spanish language. To do so and to avoid any kind of obstacles and to keep myself accountable, I have decided to do the following four things
- Get up early in the morning and start doing Spanish Grammar exercises.
- On the way to work, listen to a Spanish podcast.
- Read a book in Spanish of my interest.
- At the end of the day, do a review of things I learned and with time write in Spanish
Having learned many languages in the past, I have experienced that to master any language the following three ingredients are necessary
- A strong Why.
- Resources to learn the language.
- The knowledge about how to learn new skills.
A strong Why
To keep myself motivated, I am going to start with a “why”. I think the number one reason, why I want to learn and master Spanish is to travel to Spain and make Spanish speaking friends. It would give me immense joy to express myself in this wonderful language.
However, from my experience the why is important but it does not always lead to success. To keep my self accountable, I am going to take the D.E.L.E B1 exam to keep track of my progress.
Resources to learn the language
Without the essential tools, I don’t think it would be possible to learn any language or skill. To achieve my goals, I am going to be using the following resources.
- A B1 Grammar book
- Subscription to podcasts of my interest
- Books and magazines of interest
With these resources and my process to document my experience, hopefully, I will be able to achieve my dream to succeed in passing the D.E.L.E B1 exam within 2–3 months. Hopefully, with time, I shall be able to reach C1 level of language competency
Knowledge about how to learn new skills.
To learn how to learn, I need to put in time and effort to understand, how one acquires new skills without getting frustrated. I was a pretty decent learner when I was in school and university. However, since I started working, it has become a bit difficult to learn things quickly and effectively. I hope, learning this skill and helping others in this journey would be a valuable asset.
Hasta pronto.
